I lost all my confidence… then went and bought a unicorn (aka Mia) who already knew the pattern. That first D2D barrel race in 2024? That’s where everything changed — and where I found my Double R family.

The Story

I lost all my confidence and honestly wasn’t sure where things were heading… until Mia came along.

She already knew the pattern — I didn’t — but together we stepped into our first D2D barrel race in 2024. That run didn’t just get me back in the arena… it gave me my confidence back too.

And somewhere in all of that, I found Double R.

Not just the brand — the people.

The kind of people who make you feel like you belong from the very first hello. The ones who cheer the loudest from the sidelines, back you when things go wrong, and remind you why you started in the first place.

It’s more than gear. It’s a support crew, a backup crew, and a whole lot of heart.

For me, Double R isn’t just something I wear — it’s something I’m proud to be part of.

What’s on the horizon

Horse goals — getting my youngster started and hopefully out camping at barrel events soon.

Nellie and I are aiming to step it up and start placing in the Open 5D.

Ambassador goals — get more involved, show up more, and go deeper with this incredible brand.

Horse Power

Nellie — my absolute heart horse… my little rocket donkey.

Mia — my 15-year-old Friesian X who gave me my confidence back and now loves a barrel race.

Presley — the ginger ninja. My 2-year-old Quarter Horse and future barrel racer… the “secret child” I keep a bit quiet 😆

Dexter — my 2-year-old Huntaway who keeps life interesting.

Road Trip Essential

Every barrel race without fail — there’s a Boost Juice in the rig. The big bottle from Woolies 😆

So random, but it’s just not a barrel race without it.

Morning Person or Night Owl?

Night owl… 100%. Just quietly waiting for someone to fund me an arena with lights 😆

Something Most People Wouldn’t Know

Okay… this is where it gets awkward 😆

I have a pair of socks — blue with ducks on them — and they are my lucky socks.

No idea where they came from, but every single barrel race, without fail, they’re on my feet. Yes… they might get worn a few days in a row (gross, I know 🤪).

They’re strictly for barrel races and only in the arena — boots off, socks off straight after.

And if we’re running late, it’s probably because I’m tearing the house apart trying to find the other one.

Melissa’s Double R Pick

Melissa Tee

Can I just say… the whole storage shed and everything in it? 😆

But if I had to pick — I do love the “Melissa” tee.
